"But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt." --Genesis 19:26
Looking back to what once was is probably the worst thing we can do. There's absolutely nothing you can do to change the past. So what good is it to wallow in self-pity when things go a-rye? It changes NOTHING. Worrying/stressing about it just makes you weak and breaks down your ability to become resilient. resilience comes from going through difficulties yet bouncing back and becoming a stronger, better person. These things we think are so important--so profound in the current moment may be worthless in the long run. In fact, we only see a fragment. Sure, this fragment--losing a friend, a loved one may be devastating...it may seem like the worst thing that could ever happen to you. but maybe there's a person you could meet in the future that you would have never met if that lost friend was still around. when looking at the big picture, that lost friend could be the best thing that ever happened to you. Life is not in our control and once we accept that fact, it's easier to accept life's losses. If we believe we have all the power (which we don't), then we only have ourselves to blame when anything goes wrong. God is in control of our lives if we are believers. People often blame God for the things that go wrong in their lives. As I mentioned, we only see a fragment so when 9-11 hit, everyone asked "why did God let this happen?" First of all, God isn't a superhero--He's SO much more than that. There is a reason for everything that happens. There is, believe it or not, a lot of good that came out of such a horrific incident like 9-11. People learned not to take life for granted. Things happened--good thing happened in people's lives that wouldn't have happened had 9-11 not occurred. God doesn't punish us--He has a better plan for us than we could imagine but we only see a fragment of it. Once we give up our desire to control everything and turn our control over to God, we will see good things happen. Difficulties should not turn us away from God, rather, they should draw us closer to Him in our time of weakness and frailty.
2 Corinthians 12:10 "His strength is made perfect in our weakness."
